As a wedding and international photographer, I’ve spent years stepping into bridal suites and groom’s prep rooms across Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific. I’ve seen it all, the moments of pure, quiet joy and the moments of frantic, last-minute chaos.

My goal is always to capture the authentic love and excitement of your day, and that starts with a calm, organized morning. If you want to walk down the aisle feeling refreshed and ready, here is my guide to keeping your wedding prep stress-free.

1. Give yourself space

Don’t feel obligated to invite everyone to get ready in the same room. When you pack a space with extended family, extra relatives, and children, it quickly becomes sensory overload. A crowded room creates a chaotic atmosphere that can spike your stress levels before the ceremony even begins. Keep your “getting ready” space intimate and calm.

2. Delegate the details

You are the star of the day, not the event manager. Choose one reliable member of your bridal party to handle the fine-tuning. Or an Events Planner.  Let them be the point person for questions, timing, and small logistics so you can focus entirely on enjoying the experience of getting ready.

3. Choose your inner circle wisely

Your bridal party should be your support system. When choosing your bridesmaids and groomsmen, look for people who have your best interests at heart. You want people who are invested in your happiness, not those who might be more focused on their own agenda.

4. Communicate with your suppliers early

Don’t leave your timeline to chance. Communicate clearly with all your wedding suppliers well in advance. Aim to have your schedule finalized and “fine-tuned” at least one week before the big day. When everyone is on the same page, the day unfolds much more smoothly.

5. Location, location, location

Choose a place to get ready that is reasonably close to your ceremony site. Minimizing travel time reduces the risk of traffic delays or last-minute panic. Being close to your venue ensures you arrive on time and relaxed, rather than rushing through the final stretch.

6. Prioritize professional hair and makeup

When booking your hair and makeup team, ensure they are experienced in managing wedding morning schedules. They should be able to allocate enough time for you and your bridal party so that everyone is finished and ready before your photographer arrives for those essential pre-ceremony shots.

7. Trust your photographer

You have hired a professional to capture your day—trust them to do their job. It can be incredibly off-putting to your main photographer if a family member is constantly hovering and trying to take their own photos. Let your guests be guests, and let your photographer capture the moments you’ve paid for.

8. Fill your emotional tank

The best accessory you can wear is a well-rested, happy smile. Make sure you get a good night’s sleep and prioritize relaxation in the few days leading up to the wedding. Do things that fill your emotional tank, whether that’s a quiet morning coffee, a walk, or simply spending time with your partner. When you feel good, it shows in every single photo.
